 about

I am a final year Music and Hispanic Studies student at The University of Sheffield. I play the piano, the clarinet and the African djembe, and have a particular interest in music, language, culture and people.
This website functions as a portfolio for my various journalistic endeavours. It features everything I wrote for Exposed Magazine in Sheffield, plus a selection of work produced for a tourism platform called Divento during a five-month journalism internship in Barcelona. Most of these texts are written in both English and Spanish. Finally, anything else can be found under ‘Other Work.’

 about the special project

This website also forms part of the assessment criteria for the 2018-2019 Special Project module offered to final year Music students at the University of Sheffield. The module allows students to negotiate a project that does not conform to Dissertation, Performance or Composition, giving students an opportunity to work with others outside of their discipline and to communicate their work to non-specialist audiences.

I decided to take this opportunity to explore a pathway within music that has always intrigued me: music journalism. For the best part of an academic year, I have undertaken a work placement in (mostly) music journalism with a local Sheffield-based magazine called Exposed. The work I produced during this internship can be found in my portfolio under ‘Texts for Exposed.’ As part of the Special Project module, I also wrote an independent gig review and a short critical essay on music journalism, both of which can be found under ‘Case Studies.’ My personal blog is a space for analysis and critical reflection on my progress as I go along.
